The Eucharist Really Is Jesus -- Book!

Catholic Answers recently published a new book by well-known apologist Joe Heschmeyer, titled The Eucharist Really Is Jesus: How Christ's Body and Blood Are the Key to Everything We Believe.

When I first saw the title of the book, I thought, "I already believe this, so what can this book really add to that?"

Turns out, it added a lot!

Before I dive into it, be sure to check out Joe's blog Shameless Popery, both in its original site: https://shamelesspopery.com/ and also the newer articles he is writing for Catholic Answers Magazine: https://www.catholic.com/profile/joe-heschmeyer

Do you believe that the Eucharist really is Jesus?

Good! You are in line with Catholic dogma.

But do you know how to interpret John 6, when Jesus says says near the end of the Bread of Life discourse that, "It is the spirit that quickeneth: the flesh profiteth nothing. The words that I have spoken to you, are spirit and life."

Protestants (wrongly) jump on that verse and say, "See, see! Jesus didn't really mean that we should eat his flesh and drink his blood. Because He said that the flesh profits nothing; only the spirit mattters."

Joe expertly explains how the verse means the exact opposite of what Protestants claim and instead strengthens the Catholic doctrine.

Another fascinating part is where Joe explains how we, when we receive Jesus in the Eucharist, are actually "metabolized" into Jesus.

We know that Jesus partook of our human nature, so that we could become partakers of His divine nature. Normally, when we eat food, we incorporate that food to become part of our bodies. But when we receive the food of the Eucharist, the opposite happens: Jesus incorporates us into Himself! He includes several quotes from saints explaining the theology of this process.

In the book, Joe tackles the main objections made by Protestant apologists against Christ's Real Presence in the Eucharist. He argues convincingly against their errors and demonstrates why what they claim does not hold up to scrutiny.

Far from preaching to the choir, I learned a ton of deeply insightful truths about the Eucharist from Joe's book, which has increased my devotion to Our Lord, especially in the Holy Mass.
